Love Island's Dr Alex George admits he is finding it 'really tough' in emotional post after split
Love Island's Dr Alex George has posted an emotional update following his split with girlfriend Amelia Bath.
The reality star, 30, announced on Thursday that the couple had parted ways just days after reuniting following their lockdown separation while he worked on the NHS frontline amid the coronavirus crisis.
Alex said in an Instagram post on Saturday: 'The last few days have been really tough but I am so grateful for the love and support I have received, it means the world to me.
'Life happens. Being able to pick yourself up and move forward with positivity and an appreciation for life is what matters.'
The former Love Islander posted the heartfelt caption alongside a snap of himself in the pub.
It comes after he announced on Thursday: 'Guys just want to let you know, Amelia and I have decided to go our separate ways.
As you know, we've been apart for most of lockdown which has been hard on us both and we both agree this is for the best.
'We will remain good friends and I have nothing but respect for Amelia. Thank you for the love and support always.'
Amelia shared a similar statement to her own social media, as she thanked fans for their messages of support.
The former flames had reunited on Thursday last week, after spending 102 days apart during lockdown.
Dr Alex made the decision at the start of lockdown to isolate himself from the actress, 24, and his family as he battled coronavirus on the NHS frontline.
On the Tuesday before their reunion, Dr Alex admitted he 'couldn't wait' to see his stunning girlfriend again, as they have been forced to spend weeks apart while he works on the NHS frontline.
The television personality took to Instagram to share a loved-up throwback snap as he awaited their reunion.
He wrote: 'Can't wait to go for dinner with this one ❤️ We have all waited so long to enjoy the simple things that make us happy in life.'
Alex and Amelia had been together since December 2018, and had only been able to see each other a handful of times throughout lockdown.
In April, Amelia uploaded a picture of the couple on Instagram with the caption: 'I've been eating an apple a day and I haven't seen the doctor in over 5 weeks. It seems to be working.'
Amelia then took to her Instagram Story to post a picture of two glasses filled with red wine.
Last month, the Welshman admitted he was struggling living apart from Amelia, and confessed he was 'tired' following his 'busy shift', and just 'wants to go home and chat' to the dancer, who he credited for helping him 'relax'.
